Please join us in saying hei to Laura Birn who will visit Australia in July as our inaugural Scandinavian Film Festival ambassador! She appears in our festival films Heart of a Lion and August Fools.
Laura Eveliina Birn is a Finnish actress born on 25 April 1981 in Helsinki. She has gained an extremely positive reputation through her varied roles in theatre, television and film both within Finland and beyond, helped by her multi-linguistic skills in Finnish, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. After discovering her passion for performance while on exchange in Brazil, Laura went on to be nominated for best supporting actress at the Jussi Awards (Finnish Film Awards) for her very first on-screen role in 2002. Following this, her extensive film roles have earned her further nominations, constant critical praise, and the best actress award at the Jussi Awards 2012 for her extraordinary performance in Purge, which was Finland’s Oscar entry in 2012. Birn was chosen as one of Europe’s hottest young actors when awarded the prestigious Shooting Star Award at the Berlin Film Festival 2013.
Laura will attend the festival opening nights in Canberra and Sydney, and partake in Q&A sessions for her film Heart of a Lion in Sydney at Palace Verona on Thursday 10th July at 6:45pm, and Melbourne at Palace Cinema Como on Friday 11th July at 6:45pm.
